Hearing Test
What to expect from our Comprehensive Hearing Test
During your appointment
1. History
Your Audiometrist will start chatting with you about any concern you've noticed and learned a bit about your hearing and ear health
history.
2. Otoscopy

Your Audiometrist will gently use an otoscope—a small light—to take a close look inside each ear. This helps us check your ear canal and eardrum for any signs of blockage or concerns in the outer or middle ear.
3. Audiometry

Your hearing test takes place in a quiet room. We'll use insert earphones and let us know whenever you hear a beep by pressing the response button provided. These responses help us map your hearing thresholds on an audiogram. We’ll check both air‑ and bone‑conduction to get a complete picture of your hearing.
4. Speech Discrimination Test

Speech discrimination testing checks how well you understand speech in both quiet and noisy settings. Your results help us determine which hearing technology will best support your listening needs.
5. Tympanometry

A tympanometer gently checks how your middle ear is working by applying small pressure changes while you hear a soft hum. This quick, comfortable test shows how well sound moves through to your inner ear.
After your Comprehensive Hearing Test
Your Audiometrist will go through your results with you and discuss the best next steps to support your hearing. This may include hearing aid or device recommendations, tips for easier listening, tinnitus strategies, custom earplugs, or referral to a medical specialist if needed. You’ll also receive a copy of your results and a summary of our recommendations.
Next steps
If we identify a medical concern that needs an Ear, Nose and Throat specialist, we’ll prepare a detailed report for you to take to your GP for referral. If hearing aids are recommended and you’d like to explore a trial, your audiometrist will walk you through the options and explain the fitting process—either during your appointment (if time allows) or at a later visit. You’re welcome to take as much time as you need before deciding on the next step.
